I have been out a few times, when invited, and I have bought some things that could be considered excess, like a new clothes hamper, and a scale (since I am attempting to get in shape) but for the most part, so far so good!

I have eased the restrictions some, but that should make it more possible to continue!

Ok, so, I am buying a used dresser this weekend, I need one. All I have been keeping clothes in is my closet, and although big, it really isn't enough. Dispite downsizing my cloths significatly.

Also, I have decided that I am not going to be able to avoid going out to do social things that cost money, for the whole year.

Too many situation where friends want to do stuff with my and my girlfriend, and we can't simply avoid our relationships for that long. So, I will just be savvy about when and where we go.

I am however, sticking to the no buying needless things. The dresser I am classifying as a need.

Just a couple weeks in, I ALREADY notice more money on hand... Man, I was a junk buying machine!

I am excited about this going forward.

Probably going to take a trip somewhere in Spring 2013?

Any suggestions? Needs to be somewhere that is at least a 6 hour flight from DC!

This 'life instructions' list from the Dalai Lama has gone viral and I absolutely love it! Here it is:

1.Take into account that great love and great achievements involve great risk.

2. When you lose, don’t lose the lesson.

3. Follow the three R’s:
- Respect for self,
- Respect for others and
- Responsibility for all your actions.

4. Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck.

5. Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly.

6. Don’t let a little dispute injure a great relationship.

7. When you realize you’ve made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.

8. Spend some time alone every day.

9. Open your arms to change, but don’t let go of your values.

10. Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.

11. Live a good, honorable life. Then when you get older and
think back, you’ll be able to enjoy it a second time.

12. A loving atmosphere in your home is the foundation for your life.

13. In disagreements with loved ones, deal only with the current situation. Don’t bring up the past.

14. Share your knowledge. It is a way to achieve immortality.

15. Be gentle with the earth.

16. Once a year, go someplace you’ve never been before.

17. Remember that the best relationship is one in which your love for each other exceeds your need for each other.

18. Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it.

19. If you want others to be happy, practice compassion.

20. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.

What do you think? Do you have a favorite?

I haven't really been bummed yet about not buying stuff. I have purchased a new vanity for my bathroom, but it was indeed needed as my roommate is going though the process of renovating it.. and the sink was basically destroyed.

I am planning on hiking with my girlfriend and my dog soon. Something I might have done before, but am looking forward to now.

The process of replacing expensive entertainment with free entertainment is going to be difficult, but rewarding. To say the least.

Today is the first day. Bought groceries. Needed that though, obviously!

This is going to be tough.
